Chiva’s Specialist Support Staff for Young People Living With HIV
2025 Young people and young adults growing up living with HIV have often had complex childhood experiences and adversities such as parental bereavement, which can result in increased support needs in early adulthood with known risks to health and wellbeing. Some young adults continue to be significantly affected by their early life traumas and the lack of stable and consistent adult support during childhood often manifests as difficulties managing early adulthood, particularly when former support structures such as education are no longer available.
The aim of Chiva’s specialist support staff is to provide a service which supports medical teams to ensure positive health outcomes for young people, which can only be achieved when basic needs and psychosocial wellbeing are being addressed.
