Outcomes in the Netherlands

HIV Outcomes Netherlands was launched in 2026 to improve the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of people with HIV by bringing together people and organisations across the Dutch HIV sector to identify policy priorities, leverage synergies, and drive evidence-based change. The HIV Monitoring Foundation serves as the secretariat of HIV Outcomes Netherlands.

Milestones

2026

Startup of HIV Outcomes Netherlands, organised into four workstreams:

  • The last mile – Identify and address barriers to HIV care for underserved populations, including people with a migration background, transgender people, undocumented migrants, and people living in poverty or with mental health conditions. The aim is to improve retention in care, enabling people to achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load and optimise their health-related quality of life (HRQoL).

  • Peer support – Identify barriers and facilitators to embedding peer support in HIV treatment centres and strengthen the quality and diversity of peer supporters in collaboration with the Dutch HIV Alliance.

  • Stigma – In collaboration with Aidsfonds – Soa Aids Netherland, contribute to the National HIV Stigma Action Plan by advancing stigma-reduction policy priorities at the Dutch and European levels.

  • Health-related quality of life – Develop innovative approaches to measuring HRQoL in the Netherlands to better link people with HIV to appropriate care pathways and design differentiated, person-centred services based on individual care needs.

2025

The need for collaboration at the policy level was identified during a workshop in Amsterdam attended by representatives from organisations across the Dutch HIV sector.
