Strategic Meeting June 2026

This year, as HIV Outcomes marked its 10th anniversary, representatives from the European initiative and national networks in Italy, Romania, the Netherlands, Poland and the UK came together in Milan to reflect on a decade of progress and shape the future of HIV advocacy. The HIV Outcomes’ Strategic Meeting focused on strengthening collaboration across countries and discussing future advocacy priorities. A key objective of the meeting was to develop the next chapter of HIV Outcomes' policy agenda and ensure a shared vision for political action.

Discussions highlighted the growing impact of the HIV Outcomes network. With presentations from each of the national initiatives, the network reflected on the role of evidence-based policy asks. Local examples of data and person-reported stories are key tools for meaningful advocacy and political influence. The findings reaffirmed that community organisations are an essential pillar of HIV prevention, treatment and care, yet they continue to face fragmented and insufficient funding despite their essential role in health outcomes.

Looking ahead, HIV Outcomes renewed its call for a new EU Action Plan on HIV/AIDS, ten years after the previous plan came to an end. Participants discussed updating the HIV Outcomes’ Policy Asks while maintaining their four core pillars: comorbidity prevention and management, ageing with HIV, person-reported outcomesand HRQoL monitoring, and combatting stigma and discrimination. The updated framework will place greater emphasis on sustainable funding, strengthening the community sector, and addressing vulnerability as cross-cutting priorities.

The Joint Community Sector report and Vulnerability Toolkit will be next advocacy outputs, published over the course of September and October as a part of the 10 Years 10 Stories campaign. The Strategic Meeting highlighted yet again how HIV policy remains relevant within today's broader European health, social and political landscape.
