Vaccination Programmes
2018 Vaccination is a fundamental tool for preventing many communicable diseases. However, due to their immunodeficiency, specific considerations apply to people living with HIV. Those with a low CD4 count should not receive vaccines containing live attenuated viruses. Even among less immunocompromised individuals living with HIV, vaccine responses may be weaker or shorter-lasting than in the general population, leaving them at increased risk.
In Italy, vaccination programmes for people living with HIV are guided by two national frameworks: the National Vaccine Prevention Plan and the National HIV/AIDS Plan.
